John H. "Jack" Abromitis, 83, died at his home of 48 yrs. on Saturday, 3-31-12 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Minersville, Pa. on 01/09/29 and was the son of the late Joseph & Ruth (Seiler) Abromitis.
Jack proudly served in the United States Marines during WWII and was honorably discharged as a Private 1st Class. Upon his return, Jack continued his service in the Marine Corps Reserve and then the National Guard. He was noted in a New Jersey Legislative Resolution as a Veteran of Underage Military Service.
He worked as a conductor on the Central Railroad of New Jersey that later became NJ Transit. He was General Chairman for the United Transportation Union.
He moved his family to Hackettstown, N.J. in 1964, where he was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Church, the Knights of Columbus, Joyce Kilmer Council and VFW Post 164.
Jack was an avid poker player in a local pub poker league. one of his greatest joys was playing Hold 'Em with his poker buddies, especially his good friends Wayne Miller & Fred Regentin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Angela M. Roberti - at home.

2 Daughters - Maryann McFadden - Hackettstown, N.J. & Jacquelyn Abromitis (Kathleen Ulisse) - Great Meadows, N.J.
1 Brother - Robert Yurkonis - Avon, Oh.
1 Sister - Arlene Mollica - Butler, N.J.
6 Grandchildren - John J. Abromitis, Jr. (Eileen), Patrick McFadden Jr. (Karen), Marisa McFadden Tamburello (Michael), Matthew Abromitis, Kristin Jacobs (Damien) & Teresa Abromitis.
6 Great Grandchildren - Mia Abromitis, Alice , Lilly, Julia & Phoebe Tamburello & Brandon Jacobs.
He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Joseph Abromitis & William Abromitis & a sister, Patricia Bohatch.
Visitation will be on Monday, 4-2-12 from 2-4 & 6-9pm at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hackettstown, N.J. 07840. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tues. 4-3-12, 10:30AM at Our Lady of the Mountain Church, Rt. 24, Schooley's Mtn., N.J. Interment will be at the Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, N.J..
