Bertha (Bert) Erskine, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away at her residence at the House of the Good Shepherd on February 11, 2018 of natural causes. Bertha would have been 94 years old later this month.
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Bertha came to America settling in New York City with her husband Henry and daughter Lorraine in 1949. Once in America, Bertha and her husband expanded the family by five more children. In addition to living in Belfast, New York City, and Hackettstown, Bertha has lived in New Milford, NJ, Hillsborough, NJ, Murfreesboro, TN, and Seneca, SC.
Bertha will long be remembered for her passion for raising her six children, fondly reminiscing about the “old Country” of Ireland, as well as cooking and knitting. Over the past several years, even knitting hats and scarfs for the military and caps for new born babies at Hackettstown Hospital.
Bertha is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Greg Harding of Seneca, SC, daughter Marilyn Mickelson of Vienna, VA, daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Steve Melofchik of Ocean View, DE, son and daughter-in-law, Hank and Kathy Erskine of Green Brook, NJ, daughter Deidra Erskine of Asheville, NC, son and daughter-in-law, David and Kelly Erskine of Cordova, TN, as well as six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry.
A private memorial service will be held within the next few weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Bertha Erskine to the House of the Good Shepherd, 798 Willow Grove Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.

Robert J Marino, age 72, of Hackettstown died Sunday, January 21, 2018 at home.

Robert was born August 1, 1945 in Bronx, NY. He is the son of the late Joseph and Alice (Schemmer) Marino. He married Diane Abbruscato.

Robert proudly served in the Marine Corps during the the Vietnam war from 1964 to 1965. He was a retired Tractor Trailer Driver and also worked in Iraq during the Iraq War transporting equipment and supplies to the Military.

Robert is survived by his wife: Diane (Abbruscato) Marino , two sons: Richard Rumbello and Robert Marino, one daughter: Michelle Jones, three beautiful grandchildren: Trevor, Anthony and Shawn

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 am on Friday, January 26 at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption, 302 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. with Father Antony Arockiadoss officiating.

Richard P. Bingel, 50, of Hackettstown died Saturday January 20, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brookline, MA a son of Richard J. and the late Emily (Rizzitano) Bingel, he grew up in Stoughton, MA. Richard proudly served his country with the United States Marines and participated in Operation Desert Storm. He later served with the US Army Reserves and National Guard. He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Budd Lake, NJ for over 20 years. He was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 164 in Hackettstown. He was a former Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 164 in Hackettstown. In addition to his father Richard is survived by one son, Douglas Bingel, two daughters, Brittany and Danielle Bingel and a brother Michael Bingel.. A visitation will be held on Saturday January 27th from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Cochran Funeral Home 905 High St. Hackettstown, NJ. Gerhard Helmut Fuchs at Heath Village in Hackettstown NJ on January 13, 2018 at the age of 87. He was born August 27, 1930 in Cottbus, Germany. Gerhard emigrated to the United States from East Germany becoming a U.S. citizen in 1960. He is predeceased by his wife Nancy, daughter Christine, and a brother Fritz. He is survived by, a brother Eberhard and his wife Susan of NY, a son Fritz of NM, a son Brian and his wife Sandy of NJ, a daughter Rebecca and her partner Kris of NH, a son Joachim of VA, a son Otto and his wife Stacy of NC and grandchildren Edward Fuchs and his finance Jenny Ryan, Alexander Fuchs and his wife Joiceann, Scott Arnold-Stanton, Erika Fuchs, Bailey Arnold-Fuchs and, Haley Arnold-Fuchs. He lived for many years in Oldwick, NJ, where he and his wife raised a family, before moving to Heath Village in Hackettstown, NJ. Gerhard was very active in local life, being a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, serving on the Tewksbury Township school board and planning board, and teaching boat safety for the Long Valley Power Squadron.
Gerhard attended at various times the: Technical University of Berlin, New York University, University of Buffalo, and University of Maryland with degrees in Chemical Engineering, management, and law. Gerhard retired from the Honeywell Corporation after many years of employment working in chemical research, plant management, and as a patent attorney. He was an inventor himself with multiple patents for the manufacture of Oxalic Acid and thermal pane windows.

J. Paul Lyons, a Navy Seabee celebrated his 93rd birthday on January 3rd. He passed away at home in the loving care of his wife in the early hours on Sat. January 13th in Belvidere, New Jersey. He was born in Boston Massachusetts in 1925 son of the late John and Loretta Lyons and lived in nearby Milton with his younger siblings, Ann,John and David. He was drafted as a junior in High School and served in the US Navy. He was deployed in 1943 aboard the U.S. LST 125 for the South Pacific. He served as a Naval Petty Officer on Guadalcanal and was injured during a Japanese Submarine Attack. He was separated from the US Navy in April 1946 through an honorable discharge, receiving Victory Medal WWII,American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal (1 star) and the Solomon Islands Campaign Medal. He was also the base Buglar and maintained communications with central command on the Hawaiian Islands. Upon returning to Boston, he completed High School at Boston College High School. He received his Law Degree from Suffolk University in 1951.He was active in the greater Boston Business Community, including founding Boston Office Products. Later in life he met and married Judith Kenny of Great Meadows, the love of his life. During 26 years of marriage they ran several successful businesses, including Bressler’s Ice Cream and Yogurt in Brandon Fl, Country Meadows B&B, Country Maids Cleaning and Concierge Service, Country Gardner, and Country Soups, all in Gardiner, New York. In his final years Paul enjoyed growing organic vegetables and worked selling them at the WWII Vet stand in Great Meadows. Paul was a new member of the beautiful Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church where he made many loving friends and helped make Pierogies and Cabbage Rolls. He is survived by his loving wife Judy Kenny Lyons as well as his three sons Paul, Mark and Eric and their mother Mary Lyons Johns. His six grandchildren are Kai, Edan, Ruby, Hannah, Ella and Kendall. His two surviving siblings are Ann Lyons of Clearwater Fl and David Lyons of Whitman, MA. He is a member of the American Legion, Blue Ridge Post #164 in Hackettstown,NJ. And was a member of the Gardiner Business Association of NY, and the New Paltz Chamber of Commerce in NY. Paul will be deeply missed by his many friends both near and far and many customers he met working at the stand. Religious and Military services will be scheduled for spring 2018 at Pequest Union Cemetery. James R McCormack, age 86 died Friday, January 12, 2018. Mr. McCormack was born November 21, 1931 in Jersey City, NJ. He is the son of the late Timothy and the late Hyacinth (Grossmann) McCormack.

He was employed by Local Union 25 as a sheet metal worker.

He is survived by his former wife Charlotte McCormack, one son, Robert McCormack and his wife Lucille, one daughter Diane Wagner, one brother, William McCormack and his wife Joan, and two granddaughters, Caitlyn and Breanne McCormack.


A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at St. Peter & Paul Church, 360 US-46, Great Meadows, N.J. with Father Gregory officiating. Cremation will be private.

Elizabeth A Sturtevant, age 102, of Hackettstown, N.J. died Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Elizabeth was born May 22, 1915 in Rockaway, NJ. She is the daughter of the late John Vincent and the late Barbara (Onca) Yosh.

She is survived by one daughter, Gladys Shea two sons, Robert J. Sturtevant and partner Helen Blide, Alan E. Sturtevant and his wife Jeannie, 9 Grandchildren, and 12 Great Grandchildren.
