Kay
                                                                 “MOM”
Patricia Joan Kay, age 74, of Hackettstown, NJ died Sunday, March 19, 2017 at home. Patricia was born on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1942 in Passaic, NJ. She is the daughter of the late Stanley and Elizabeth (Kamphausen) Rembish.  She married Donald Harry Kay.
Patricia graduated from Wallington High School, Wallington NJ, Montclair State University 1964 with a BA in science education and a Master’s Degree from MSU in 1968.
Pat taught biology and earth science at Hackettstown High School 1964 to 1968 after which she took a thirteen year maternity leave. She returned to HHS in the early 80’s and taught biology and earth science again while working on her guidance certification. She left HHS in 1989 to become Director of Guidance at Pope John High School, Sparta, NJ. After a little over three years there, she moved on to Morris Knolls High School, Denville, NJ, as a guidance counselor. She left there in 1998 to retire but felt she had a few more years of counseling in her so she filled in at Bridgewater-Raritan High School for a counselor out on sick leave. She moved back to HHS for three years as freshman counselor and finally retired for good after one year at Belvidere High School, Belvidere, NJ. Wherever she worked, she gave one hundred and ten percent and was revered and loved by all those that knew her.
Pat enjoyed all kinds of crafts which included, but not limited to, crocheting, knitting, counted cross stitch, and leaded glass; she was never without a project. She also enjoyed decorating houses as she and her husband Donald moved seven times all in the Hackettstown area and every house had her touch. She was a big fan of Johnny Mathis and attended several of his live concerts. She also relished our times at Mohonk Mountain House upstate NY and at our cabin near Lake Wallenpaupack.

In her retirement she enjoyed traveling and visiting her daughter, her husband and the three grandchildren in MA.

Patricia is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Donald, her cherished daughter, Elizabeth Amodeo and husband Eddie, her loving son, Michael D. Kay, a sister, Susan Zuretti and husband Chuck, 3 grandchildren, Maria, Allison, Eddie Amodeo and her dog, Ginger.

Pat joined “Friends and Neighbors,” a club that operated out of Panther Valley where she served as president for three years. She especially enjoyed working with the Tuesday morning craft group.

Calling hours will be Friday, March 24 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J.. With a wake service starting at 6:00 pm

A graveside service will be held, Saturday, March 25 at 11:00 am, at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ 07652. Please meet at the front gate of the cemetery at 10:45 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Selah Care Center, 443 Schooley’s Mountain Road, Hackettstown, NJ  07840 in memory of Patricia.

Condolences:

I have very fond memories of being one of Pat's partners in crime at the Friends and Neighbor's craft group. We used to sit together and shared many laughs. Pat was a true lady, with kind words for everyone. RIP Pat, finally you are at peace.

Dear Donald & family, While I am saddened deeply by the loss of Pat for all who knew & loved her, I find myself thanking God for ending any suffering she may have endured due to her Alzheimer's Disease for too many years. It came at a time in her life when the plan was to travel with you & see new places & things to share with her children & grandchildren & make new memories. It is such a cruel disease that took away her old memories a little at a time. She or anyone with this disease has to feel lost & alone no matter what people say to them. She accomplished so much in life to help others. She put 13 years of her life & her career on hold to raise her children first hand as the good mother that she was to them. Family came first for her which is the most important thing one can have in life. In the many photos I have seen of Pat over the past few years from her younger days, it was evident how much love she had to give to others. All the things I know about her shows me what an amazing person she really was inside. I know the family & grandchildren have missed her since she became ill & I pray that they all find peace in knowing that her trying journey is now over for her & she will forever be at peace in a new, healthy body & mind again. I only wish I had met her in person. Rest in peace Pat. You deserve peace now. God bless you all & remember her the way she once was with you.

Dear Don, Beth, Michael, Susan, Chuck and family, Mark and I want to take this opportunity to thank you. We thank you for the opportunity to love and care for Patricia. It has been an honor and our pleasure to have her in our lives, our home, and to call her friend. We grieve with you during this time of loss. We have all been grieving for some time as we have watched Patricia disappear because of Alzheimer's. I am grateful that she suffers no more and as I told her before she left us, "we will meet her on the other side". We loved each and every one of you and will forever be grateful for your friendship and your trust over the years.
