 John Paul Meyer, age 91, of Hackettstown, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at home.  John was born March 2, 1925 in Marshalltown, IA. He is the son of the late John E. and Clara Mae (Moser) Meyer. John was a long time resident of Schoolye's Mountain where he served and helped build the community from the early 1960's. He was instrumental helping build Our Lady of the Mountain Church where he had also served as a deacon for many years.   

John served proudly in the US Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945.  He worked in Quality Control for M&M Mars, Hackettstown, NJ for many years before his retirement.  John was a Deacon for over 42 years most recently with St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, Long Valley. John became a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #10419 in 1959 and also served as Chaplin. He was an avid reader, volunteered for various organizations in the community, including the board of education and the board of health.   

He is survived by his devoted wife: Elizabeth H. (Kenny) Meyer, his loving daughter; Elizabeth Jane McKenna and husband Dennis, son; John Meyer and wife Linda, 6 grandchildren; Maryjane DeMeo and husband John, Tara Ann Midili and husband Thomas, Dennis J. McKenna and wife Vilma, Blaine John McKenna, Jackson Meyer, Dana Meyer, 6 great grandchildren; Samantha, Olivia, Daniel, Alyssa, Ryan, Jonathon and many nieces and nephews,.

The funeral will be held 10:30 am on Monday, September 26 at St. Marks Roman Catholic Church, 59 Spring Lane, Long Valley, NJ with Rev. Msg. Joseph Goode officiating.  Burial will be in Our Lady of the Mountain Cemetery, Long Valley following the mass.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 25 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at St. Marks Parish, 59 Spring Lane, Long Valley, NJ.
