Mary Ellen Scardo(Heil) passed away on May 25th after a courageous battle against ALS.
Mary Ellen was born in St. Peters in New Brunswick and was raised in Roseland. She lived in Hackettstown for the past 22 years after living previously in Stanhope.
For 25 years, Mary Ellen was a Surgical Unit Assistant at St. Claire's Dover. Her last few years working were spent at St. Claire's in Denville and at Mansfield Hallmark, where she was known to be one of the favorite “Hallmark Girls”.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband (Frank), her son (Ben), three cats, and two dogs. She was a beloved sibling to Cindy Heil-Corzine, Carolyn Pellek, & Edward Heil and was a loving daughter to her parents Ed & Dorothy Heil. Mary Ellen was also a wonderful aunt to Maureen Plunkett(and her husband, Pat), Christopher Pellek, Marianne Pellek, Shannon Heil, Kelly Heil, Ned Corzine, and Eric Corzine.
Services for Mary Ellen will be on Saturday June 29th at Cochran Funeral Home 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Visitation hours will be between 2pm-5pm and a short service will be held at Cochran at 5pm.
One of Mary Ellen's last wishes was for everyone to "dress casual" at her service. She wanted this to be a celebration of her life instead of a mourning.

I am so sorry to hear Mary Ellen passed away! I talked to her about a week before she passed away! She was worried about me and said she was doing good so I was surprised! We had so much fun together in High School! To Ben and your dad I am so sad for the both of you! But she is in heaven now and free from that disease

Please accept my condolences on the loss of Mary Ellen, mom, wife and friend to many. I am an ALS friend. I will miss her sense of humor and her advice she has given many of us in the group. I am saddened but know that she is free now. My prayer and thoughts are with her family.
