Alfred J. Sandelli, Sr.

Alfred J. Sandelli, Sr., 94, passed away peacefully at his home in Ocala, FL on Saturday, July 21, 2012, with his wife, Frances at his side. Alfred was born July 19, 1918 in Morristown, NJ. to the late Michael and Mary (Pignona) Sandelli and was a graduate of Morristown High School, Class of 1938.
Mr. Sandelli served 5 years as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Corps of Engineers during WW II and saw action in the European theater. After the war, he spent several years at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ and worked as a general supervisor on the New Jersey Turnpike. He was a construction superintendent on several facilities for the Port of New York Authority and Port Newark. Mr. Sandelli spent 25 years in Bermuda supervising projects for the US Government at Kindley Air Force Base as well as local island buildings to include the Bank of Bermuda, main and branch offices and Bacardi Rum World Headquarters.
Mr. Sandelli is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Frances (Hemlock) Sandelli, and his three children: his daughter, Georgine Villafana and her husband, Luis, of White Stone, Virginia, His sons, Alfred Sandelli, Jr. and his wife Roberta of Bucksport, Maine and James Sandelli and his wife Janet of Oak Ridge, North Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Florence Crane of Deming, New Mexico, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his grandson, Michael in 2006.
Mr. Sandelli and his wife, Frances, raised their three children in Hackettstown, NJ and Bermuda. Upon retirement, they divided their time between their Hackettstown home and their Ocala, Florida home. Mr. Sandelli was a member of Church of the Assumption in Hackettstown, NJ for 58 years and a member of Queen of Peace Ocala, FL. For 26 years. His love and care of his family and his Catholic faith were first and foremost in his life.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ocala, FL. On Wednesday, July 25, 2012 and interment with military honor guard will be at Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows, NJ on Friday, July 27, at 1:00 PM.
Memorial donations may be made to Church of the Assumption, 302 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
