James H. Burton, age 70, of Hackettstown, NJ died suddenly Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. James was born in 1945 in Wayland, NY. He is the son of the late Earl and Myrtle Burton. In addition to his parents James is preceded in death by his brother; Lawrence Earl Burton and two newborn grandchildren; Hannah Nicole Wells, James Bradley Sloane. James was a graduate of Haverling High School, Bath, NY class of 1963 and St. Bonaventure University, Olean, NY, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1967. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 16 and his love for scouting led him to pursue a career as a Professional District Scout Executive, Boy Scouts of America. In 1971, James transferred to New Jersey from Ithaca, NY to facilitate the Scouting Explorer Program. Other career opportunities followed, primarily in the area of Purchasing and he retired in 2003. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Hackettstown, NJ and felt that faith was the cornerstone of his life. He married Edna White on July 24, 1965 in Bath, NY and they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In addition to his loving wife he is survived by 2 devoted daughters; Christina D. Sloane and her husband Michael and Rebecca L. Burton, 4 grandchildren; Dominic James Petrucelli, Stephanie Marie Sloane, Julia Rae Wells, Colton James Wells, 1 great granddaughter, Bailey Ava Sloane, mother in law, Hazel White, several nieces and nephews and Melissa A. Morgan who was lovingly welcomed into his family. James was a generous and loving, husband, father and grandfather. He spent his time coaching his daughters softball teams, camping, taking family vacations and enjoying his friends and neighbors. His life-long passion was going to garage sales and flea markets and finding just the perfect item for one of his children or friends. He had a keen eye for assessing the value of collectibles and rejoiced in adding them to his collection. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 22 at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. Visiting hours will also be Saturday, August 22 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 213 Main Street, Hackettstown, N.J. 07840 or to the American Legion Blue Ridge Post 164, P.O. Box 332, Hackettstown, N.J. 07840 in memory of James.

It was so sad to hear... I remember your dad from flea marketing next to him, and random times at your house in Mine Hill. He was such a kind guy. I know you all loved him and will miss him..... our thoughts are with you all.
