John D. Reed, Sr. “Jack”, age 92, of Hackettstown died Monday, November 27, 2017 at home. Mr. Reed was born October 24, 1925 in Scranton, PA. He is the son of the late Frederic and Viola (Schupp) Reed. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife Rose (Colaluce) Reed in 1975 and his grandson, Sean.
Jack was formerly employed by NY Times, New York City, NY as a Printer retiring in 1990 after 28 years of service. He graduated from the Phillipsburg High School, Phillipsburg, NJ Class of 1943. Jack proudly served in the US Navy Seabees during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the European and the Pacific Theaters and received the French Legion of Honor medal for his participation in the liberation of France. In addition he received numerous medals for his service during the war. Jack was a life member of the American Legion, DAV, Seabee Vets of America and the VFW. He was a charter member of the Warren County War Memorial Corp. and a proud member of the American Legion Police.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Dolores Reed, 3 daughters, Donna Reed, Barbara Reed and Patty Willauer and husband Dean, 2 sons, Anthony “Tony” Reed and wife Pat, John D. Reed, Jr. and spouse, Glenn, 2 brothers, Robert Reed, Raymond Reed, 7 grandchildren , 12 great grandchildren and 4 stepchildren.
The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ following services.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 30 from 4-8 pm and Friday, December 1, 2017 from 10-11 am at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 in memory of Jack.
