Joseph J. Slachetka, age 96, of Hackettstown, NJ died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center of Hackettstown, NJ. Joseph was born November 15, 1915 in Carteret, NJ. He is the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Piotrowicz) Slachetka. He was married to Barbara Mooney Slachetka for 67 years.

He served in the US Army Air Force during WW II. He was employed by Hackettstown Post Office, Hackettstown, NJ as a Postman for over 30 years before retiring.
He was a Parishioner of St. Mary's Church of the Assumption, Hackettstown, NJ and was married there; served in the Merchant Marines; served in the Civilian Conservation Corp, Almond, NY; served in the Army-Air Force, 552 nd Heavy Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force during WW II ; member of the American Legion Post # 164, Hackettstown, NJ and the V.F.W. Hackettstown, NJ; he was an avid gardener and was active in the Boy Scouts.

He is survived by his wife: Barbara (Mooney) Slachetka ; son & wife, Joseph J. & Myra Slachetka; son & wife, Mark & Winnie Slachetka; daughter & husband, Rita & David Ryan, ; daughter & husband, Norine & Thomas Melillo; 5 Grandchildren, Sarah, Karen, Meg, Michael and Jeffrey; Great Granddaughter, Lillian; Late Brother, Stanley Slachetka; Late Sister, Olga Yapczenski.


A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, June 2 at St. Mary's Church Of The Assumption, 305 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. Burial will be in Hackettstown Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ on Saturday, June 2.

Calling hours will be Friday, June 1 from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. 07840

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to  the American Legion Post # 164, Willow Grove St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
