I met the Perkoski family in 1972 and began working on the farm when I was 16 years old. We had a great time putting up hay, listening to war stories from the old man. I learned a lot about farming, working, and having fun. Even though I went to school with Herman I spent a lot of time with Bob. He was the older brother that we looked up too. Working with Bob was great, he never got mad or upset if I didn’t know how to do something or messed something up. He taught me a lot and we had fun doing it. We also spent a lot of time together socially, it was the 70’s so we went to bars and parties and had a lot of fun. Bob probably never knew it but he had a big influence on me and I wanted to be like him. Life leads us in different directions and I left New Jersey in 1977 but a little bit of the Perkoski’s went with me. I always wanted to have a farm and be like Bob and Herman. I made it back a couple times and met Vincent when he was just a baby. We also got a couple German shepherd puppies from them too. I could write a book about all the things we did in 5 years, many wonderful memories. I’ve thought about Bob many times over the years and will always remember the good time we had. I wish his family and friends all the best, he will be missed.
