Richard H. “Dick” DeJonge, Sr., 82, of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2012 at the Evergreen Woods Health & Rehab facility of Spring Hill. Born in Glen Ridge, NJ on December 16, 1932, Dick was the son of the late Herman & Martha Harrington DeJonge.
Dick married his childhood sweetheart, the late Virginia “Ginger” Hortwick DeJonge on March 28, 1953. Together they moved their family to Hackettstown in 1964 where they lived until 2008. Prior to retiring, he was the owner and president of Metro Hotsy, Belvidere, NJ for over 35 yrs.
Mr. DeJonge proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from ’54 to ’56 and was awarded the White House Service Certificate for services performed in support of the President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was a member of Blue Ridge Post #164 American Legion, Hackettstown, NJ and was awarded the Warren County Distinguished Military Service Medal on behalf of the Board of Chosen Freeholders. Years ago, Dick was active in the Explorer’s Scouts of Hackettstown, NJ.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Linda & her husband Jeffrey Tynan; Daughter-in-law, Karen DeJonge and his granddaughters, Katee & Jenny DeJonge. One brother, Herman "Jim" DeJonge. Dick was predeceased by his loving wife, Virginia “Ginger” DeJonge in 2012 and his beloved son, Richard “Rick” DeJonge, Jr. in 2007.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 4pm to 7pm at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ, 07840. 11:00am Funeral Services will be Monday, 11-30-15 at the funeral home.
