He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942 – 1945. He was employed by NY Phone Co., New York, NY as a Foreman before retiring many years ago. William was a past member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, the VFW and the Golden Ages Club, all of Bergenfield, NJ. He was also a past member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hackettstown, NJ and enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was an avid baseball fan of his favorite team the NY Yankees, loved to bowl, golf and cook.
He is survived by his wife: Dorothy (Ringger) Fischer, 2 sons; George Fischer and wife Rose Ann, Robert Fischer, 3 daughters; Barbara Fischer, Joanne Dispoto and husband Anthony and Diane Garcia and husband Philip, 1 sister in law; Martha Fischer, 12 grandchildren; Eric, Bill, Dawn, Heather, Jason, Kisha, Cathy, Michael, Bobby, Stephanie, Melissa and Emily, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 24 at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. with Dr. Rev. Frank Fowler officiating.
Calling hours will be Saturday, October 24 from 2:00 - 6:00 PM at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.
