Bill was a lifelong resident of Long Valley. He worked for the Morris County Road Department for 36 years, retiring as the Assistant Superintendent of Roads. After his retirement from the county department, Bill worked for the Mine Brook Golf Club. Bill was a life member of the Schooley’s Mountain Fire Protection Association and the Schooley’s Mountain Presbyterian Church which is now the Highlands Presbyterian Church. He is also one of the founding members of the Long Valley Raiders Football Organization in Long Valley. Bill’s nickname was “Stumpy” which became the name of the former Stumpy’s Sports Pub in Independence Twp. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Betty Jane (Rooks) Sergent in 2010. He is survived by a son, Harold W. “Bill” Sergent,Jr. and his wife Marilyn, of Independence Twp. ; two daughters, Tammy L. Torres and Lisa A. Inza and her fiancée Joe Milelli all of Long Valley; also two grandchildren, Alexander and Amanda Inza. Friends may call on Monday August 10th from 4 – 8 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home 905 High Street,Hackettstown. The funeral service will be held at 10am on Tuesday August 11th at the Highlands Presbyterian Church, 3 Heath Lane, Schooley’s Mountain. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Schooley’s Mountain Fire Protection Association, PO Box 35 Schooley’s Mountain, NJ 07870 would be greatly appreciated.
