Charles H. “Carl” Kuhner of Hackettstown, NJ went to be with the Lord on February 20, 2019 at the House of the Good Shepherd after a Brief Illness.
Carl was born in the Bronx, New York City on April 8, 1932 to the late Frederick J. Kuhner and Elsie (Quentin) Kuhner. He was also predeceased by sister Doris, Brother Fred and second wife Mary. He is survived by his loving family and friends. This includes his first wife Elizabeth, son Kevin and his wife Joan, grandson William and his wife Caitlin, grandson James and his wife Kristen, great granddaughter Parker Anne, niece Susan Ross Siegel, nephews Steven Ross and Fred Kuhner. He also leaves many loving cousins, extended family and close friends.
Carl sered in the US Army from 1952-1954, being stationed at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA and in Germany. He worked for most of his life, starting as a youngster. As an adult he managed data processing departments at a number of firms including Parents Magazine. Even in retirement, he continued to work part time.
He grew up and lived in the Bronx until 1961 when he moved his family to the Township of Washington in Bergen County, NJ. He later lived in Rockland County, NY for 35 years before moving to Hackettstown in 2018.
From a young age he was a regular church-goer and a good Christian, being raised Lutheran, becoming an Episcopalian and later Roman Catholic. He was involved with many church parish activities for most of his life. Carl served on the vestry of Grace Episcopal Church in Westwood in the 1970’s. He was also involved as a Scout leader for a number of years.
Carl was a life-long New York Yankees and Knicks fan. He was also an avid salt-water fisherman. He was a voracious reader of books and magazines and he loved to learn. He had a great love for music and listened to it often. Carl enjoyed playing board games and cards. His outgoing personality and sense of humor earned him many friends. He was loved by all who knew him.
The funeral will be held 1:00 pm on Sunday, February 24 at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. with Father Robert Greiner officiating.
