Daniel A. Goycoechea-DePaul, 9 years old of Hackettstown, NJ, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glen Ridge, NJ on January 21, 2007, Daniel was the son of Michael & Laura Goycoechea DePaul.
Daniel was a third grade student at the Willow Grove Elementary School in Hackettstown. In addition to attending school, Daniel loved playing soccer with the Hackettstown Soccer Club and baseball with the Baseball little league of Hackettstown, NJ.
In addition to his mom & dad, Daniel is survived by his step father, Patrick McPhillips and step mother, Allison DePaul. Maternal Grandmother, Ann DePaul of Bellville, NJ. Maternal Grandmother, Nidia Goycoechea of Bloomfield, NJ. Daniel is also survived by a step brother, Sean McPhillips and step sister Megan McPhillips of Hackettstown, NJ.
Visitation will take place at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ, 07840 from 3:30pm to 8:30pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. An 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at Our Lady of the Mountain Church, Schooley’s Mountain, NJ. Entombment will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daniel’s memory to “Smiles for Margaret” at www.smilesformargaret.org. I remember playing with Daniel in summer camp at Catholic Charities a few years ago. we used to play cards everyday and he'd always be the first one to run to the table just to sit next to me. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family.

I knew Daniel since he was in first grade, before his diagnosis. I met him sitting in a tree with him and a few other Willow Grove kids. He was truly a sweet boy. Recently we have moved out of H-Town, so I checked on Daniel periodically. All of Hackettstown is devastated that has lost its little warrior - losing a child is the worst thing that can happen to anyone - but now we all have to be strong. We can do this.

My husband and I had the pleasure of coaching Daniel for a season of soccer in Mansfield. He was a true inspiration! Even though he wasn't feeling well he came to play, had a smile on his sweet face and never quit. We will never forget him! May God bless and keep him close always
