He attended the Hackettstown Public School System, Blair Academy and Princeton University, where he was a member of the Cannon Club. He was a member of the Rotary Club, served as Board of Education Vice-President, chairman of the planning board, and director of United Jersey Bank and other local corporate boards, as well as the board of Trinity United Methodist Church. Don was a life long stamp collector and avid golfer. A member of the Panther Valley Golf Club, he and his wife Bobbie continued to play together in Savannah at the Landing's Club where they lived in retirement from 1987 until moving to Bermuda Village in Advance, NC in 2000.
