Occupation: Retired in 1984 from Hackettstown School District, where he served as the Superintendent from 1970-1984.
Veteran Info: Charles proudly served his country in the US Army during WW II. Charles served in Patton's 3rd Army, 35th Infantry, as a communication Staff Sergeant. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and also served in Germany and Luxembourg.
Additional Information: Charles attended Lock Haven State Teachers College and taught Social Studies at Lock Haven High School from 1941-1955, he received a Master's Degree from University of Pennsylvania and served as the Supervising Principal of the Sugar Valley School in Loganton, PA from 1955-1959. Charles moved to Hackettstown, NJ in 1959 to fill the first principal position of the newly built Hackettstown High School. During this time he authored the book, "The Principal of the Thing". In 1970 Charles was selected as the superintendent of Hackettstown School District where he served until his retirement in 1984. Throuhout his career Charles earned numerous honors for his dedicated service to education and the community. In 1984 he received the Hackettsown Chamber of Commerce Public Service Award and in 1989 was honored by the NJ Board of Higher Education for his service to Warren County Community College, that same year he was voted WCCC teacher of the year. He also served as the interim principal of the Frelinghuysen Elementary School.
