Runyon, James F. March 7, 1960 - May 18, 2022

James F. Runyon (Jimmy, Bud and Runnin Bear), 62, passed away on May 18, 2022.  He was born on March 7, 1960, in Phillipsburg, NJ and raised in Hackettstown, NJ where he lived his entire life.  James attended and graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1978. After high school James worked for The Hercules Powder Company from 1978 to 1996.  Once Hercules Powder Company closed, he worked for Chapman Inc from 1998 to 2021.  James was a member of the Hackettstown Fire Department, Cataract Hose Company #1 for 40+ years.

James is predeceased by his parents Stanley and Marjorie (Richards) Runyon, his brother Stanley Runyon Jr and his sister Eileen Goldstein. He is survived by his Aunt Louise Karl and Aunt Harriet Gawrilowicz.  Cousins:  Darlene Mowrey and husband James and their children, AnnMarie Thomas, and Stacy Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa of 17 years. He was a chief driver, where he played an instrumental role in teaching many of our members the ins and outs of pumping and driving the trucks.  James was a mentor to many of the young guys on the Fire Department, caring, loving, and devoted to his family, friends and fire department.  James enjoyed watching College Football, especially Notre Dame, fishing, hunting, telling stories and attending Fire Department functions.

Visitation hours will be Monday, May 23rd, 2022 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Cochran’s Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.  The Funeral Service to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Cochran Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hackettstown Union Cemetery immediately following the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hackettstown Fire Department Cataract Hose Company #1, 110 Moore Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home Inc.

      Met Jimmy when he was in high school I was a police officer and found most of the kids in hackettstown to be of good character rip

    Dear Terry
    My Wife Robin and are so heartbroken to hear of Jimmy’s passing.
    I personally have known him my whole life, and along with Scott Tillou, Pete Tynan made up the class of 78 at Station 78.
    Jim was a cherished member of our Department, and has left us to soon.
    Our Heartbreak cannot compare to yours, and we commit you to Our Heavenly FATHER for the Comfort HE alone can provide, through Christ Jesus our LORD.

    Jimmy was a go to guy. Up at the Combes Landfill he was the personification of reliable. BTW I also remember, amongst many things, how Jimmy loved ground black pepper. We had a lot of laughs too. I miss Jimmy frequently and think of him fondly often. Rest in peace brother.

    Jimmy and his family were neighbors of ours throughout my school years. They were all so nice and respectful. Jimmy was always quick with a smile and a hello- just a great guy and a true Hackettstownian. God Bless you. Jimmy is in God’s hands now.

    We did so much together, you shot your first buck with me, you caught a big trout one day while fishing at Seabers, we caught a turtle once fishing, we have so many memories that I’ll never forget, my son looked up to you when you came around, he would call you Dimmy LOL, God I can’t believe your gone, you fight no more demons my brother, say hello to the family and my mother Dimmy, I love you my brother.
