Thora "Greta" Margaretha Floystad
Died: Dec 3, 2013
Thora M. "Greta" (nee Knutson) Floystad, entered into eternal rest on De. 3, 2013 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center (HRMC).  Greta was born in Brooklyn, NY to Knut and Trine (Selmer) Knutson on July 6, 1928.  Following her father's sudden death in 1930, she was raised in Tvedestrand, Norway by her aunt and uncle, Dagmar and Dr. Mikael Selmer, for a good portion of her childhood years.

Upon returning to the US, Greta graduated from Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn and worked for Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. in Manhattan, as well as several retail stores while later living in Maplewood, NJ.

She married Thorleif Henry Floystad on May 6, 1950 and together they raised 4 children - Nina Ruth Booth, Karen Elaine Macones, Gary Henry and Christine Marie Horbelt; all living nearby.  Six grandchildren - Christopher and Jeremy Wallendjack, Bryan Booth, Jennifer Macones and Nicholas and Katrina Horbelt brought even more joy into her life.

Viewing will be at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840 on Friday Dec. 6, 1-3 PM and 5 - 7 PM, followed by a service in celebration of Greta's life.  Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to HRMC would be appreciated.

Remembering many years of friendship. Norman among 1942 Confirmands at Zion Lutheran Church in Brooklyn. Making a life-long friendship. Greta and Henry moving to New Jersey, and Norman and Eldrid to Connecticut, but always in touch. Enjoying visits more often as we moved to New Jersey recently. Getting together for coffee and cake, talking about fond memories.

Dear Henry and family, So sorry to hear of Greta's passing, my Mom and Dad truly cherished your friendship. It seems hard to believe it has been 6 months since Dad passed away. The wonderful memories will always keep close. I am so sorry I cannot make it up to Hackettstown this evening. We will certainly give a donation in Greta's memory to Hackettstown Hospital. Take good care, Fondly, Paula Stafford (Lou Baker's daughter)
