Sophie L. Raymond
Died: Feb 22, 2020

Sophie L. Raymond, 84, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.  Born on August 26, 1935, Sophie lived in Mine Hill, NJ before moving to Hackettstown, NJ.  The youngest of seven children, Sophie was predeceased by her parents and her six brothers and sisters.

Sophie is survived by her daughter Belinda Singe and Belinda’s husband Herb, and her son Gary Raymond and Gary’s wife Jennifer. Her grandchildren are Alexander Raymond and his wife Bea, Elizabeth Raymond, Heidi Singe and Herb William Singe.

Sophie was employed by M&M/Mars in Hackettstown for many years. She loved working there and initially worked in the plant, then moved into the office where she worked as a financial specialist. Prior to working at M&M/Mars she was the Independence Township Court Clerk.  Through the court work she met her dear lifelong friend, Lorraine DelPalazzo.  When Sophie’s children were very young, she worked in the cafeteria at Central School in Great Meadows. Without a doubt, the most important job to Sophie was raising her children. Through her own fine example, she instilled the values of education, hard work and honesty. She repeatedly sacrificed and did without for herself, to provide for her children. Sophie attended all of their school, sports, Scouting, church and other events. She gave tirelessly of herself to raise her children and was proud of their accomplishments.

A longtime member of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Sophie’s faith was very important to her.  Sophie’s four grandchildren graduated from the St. Mary’s School and Sophie helped with many fund raisers, activities and events at the school.

When recently asked what was most important to her, she replied “my grandchildren.”  She loved her grandchildren and took so much pride in their accomplishments.  Sophie was quick to offer to baby sit, provide a meal, or transport the grandchildren to their many activities.  Each one felt special.

Sophie was a kind person who was well liked and had wonderful friends throughout her life. Special thanks to all the caregivers and friends who were so very kind and thoughtful to her. They created a peaceful, caring environment for her, and our entire family was blessed with their professionalism and friendship.
