Joan Pearl Terhune

Joan Pearl Terhune of White Township died at home on May 31 due to complications from recent brain surgery.  Her loving daughter Wendy and her loving cats Jeter and Benji were at her side.  Joan was 80.  Born in Morristown Memorial Hospital on July 21, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Leslie G. Pearl and Helen (Ackley) Pearl.  Joan married her soul mate William E. Terhune, Jr. on July 18, 1953 at the Tranquiliity United Methodist Church.  Joan held her family and her friends close to her heart with love and compassion. Joan and Bill raised their family in Tranquilitiy, NJ on the family farm BI-JO Holsteins for 32 years then moved to White Twp., NJ in 1985 where they continued to farm and operate a farm stand until 1997 when Bill died and the barn burned.
Joan was predeceased by her husband William E. Terhune, Jr. on June 21, 1997.  She is survived by her loving daughter Wendy Terhune of White Twp. with whom she lived, a daughter Linda Kimble of Tannersville, PA and a son William E. Terhune, III of Bangor, PA. Joan had 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her loving sister Hazel Lynch and brother-in-law Michael Lynch of Tupper Lake, NY, a sister Laura Kasper and brother-in-law Frank Kasper of Hackettstown, NJ and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Elmer and Helen Terhune.  She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews all of whom she treasured.
Joan was a 1951 graduate of Hackettstown High School and took college courses to become a Teacher's Aide.  She worked for Charles G. Ort Real Estate and Insurance Co., was a Homemaker and then a Teacher's Aide at Green Twp. Elementary School for 15 years.
Joan was a life time member of the Tranquility United Methodist Church, a member of YAGS, a Sunday Schoool and Bible School Teacher.  Joan loved nature, gardening and was an avid NY Yankees fan.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, June 4 at the Hackettstown Union Cemetery with Pastor Rich Peter of the Tranquility United Methodist Church officiating.  Arrangements were under the direction of Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hacketstown, NJ 07840.
