Thomas R. Singerline, age 87, Bethlehem, PA, formerly of Kearny, NJ died Friday, February 8, 2013 at Valley Manor of Coopersburg, PA. Mr. Singerline was born May 4, 1925 in East Newark, NJ. He is the son of the late Benjamin J. and the late Helen A. (McDonald) Singerline.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Harrison, NJ where he served as an altar boy. He lived all his life in NJ before moving to Lake Tahoe, NV in 2012 for several memorable months with his eldest son, Tom. Tom was a United States Navy WWII Veteran having served on the USS Joseph Hewes, a transport assigned to carry troops to and from the battle areas. After off-loading delays caused by the Battle of Casablanca, she was sunk by a German torpedo while anchored off the Northern African coast. A survivor, Tom was rescued and later served on the LST-731 and was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and participated in the capture and occupation of Guam. Tom was awarded the WWII Victory medal, he was an active member of the VFW Post #340, Kearny, NJ and the Knights of Columbus, Hackettstown, NJ. Upon his return home from the war Tom was employed by Monsanto Corp., Jersey City, NJ until his retirement in 1985. Tom loved the sea, Frank Sinatra and the NY Yankees and NY Giants.
He is survived by 3 sons; Thomas, Christopher and wife Gina, Terence Singerline; two daughters; Mickey Kunkel, Denise Singerline and husband William Foster; 1 brother, 2 sisters and 4 grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, February 12 from 6-9 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.
The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 13 at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. Burial will follow at Hackettstown Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ.
