Leonard Joseph Mooney, Sr. age 98, died February 11, 2012 at Warren Haven Nursing Home, Oxford, NJ. Leonard was born April 4, 1913 in Hackettstown to the late James and Jeanette nee-Riedinger Mooney.
Leonard graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1932, having played varsity football, basketball and baseball. He was employed as a teller by the Hackettstown National Bank until 1943, when he enlisted in the US Marines and served in the Pacific during World War II. He returned to work at the bank after his discharge in 1946. He and his wife, Helen were married in 1948. He retired from the then First National State Bank of New Jersey as Assistant Vice-President in 1978. He resided in Hackettstown and he and is wife were avid bowlers. He was active in his church, St. Mary's Church of the Assumption, the Knights of Columbus Joyce Kilmer Council# 2483, and the American Legion Blue Ridge Post # 164, all in Hackettstown, NJ.
Leonard is predeceased by his wife, Helen nee-Rogers Mooney (2003), a stepson, Roger Domeraski, his brother, James Mooney, and his sister, Marion Petro.
He is survived by his son Leonard Jr. and his wife Judith, his stepson Vincent and his wife Lynn Domeraski,a brother Wilbur and his sister, Barbara Slachetka.3 Grandchildren, Justin, Michael and Elizabeth; 5 Great Grandchildren, Kaelee, Autumn, Chloe, Evan and Olivia.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 4 - 8 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Interment will be at Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows, NJ
In lieu of flowers, donations in Leonard's memory to the Knights of Columbus, 142 Liberty St., Hackettstown, NJ
