He continued his love of the game as a post graduate at Blair Academy, Blairstown, N.J., Rider College, Lawrenceville N.J., Nichols College, Dudley Mass. and on the semi professional circuit of the tri-state area.

Mr. Cochran was a lifelong member of the Hackettstown First Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder for many years.

An active member of the community, he belonged to several local civic organizations such as the Hackettstown Kiwanis where he was club president in 1972, Hackettstown Rotary, Past President of the Tri-County Funeral Directors Association, Hackettstown and Allamuchy Historical Societies, The Allamuchy Gun Club and was a 60 year member of the former Musconetcong Lodge #42, F.& A.M., Hackettstown, N.J.. After his retirement, Jim enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife of 57 years, the late Shirley Gongwer Cochran, spending time with his family, and wintering in the Florida Keys, and enjoying his favorite hobbies of fishing and bird hunting.
He is survived by a daughter, Laura C. Morris and her husband Larry of Wyckoff, N.J. and his son and fourth generation owner of the funeral home, James G. "Chip" Cochran and his wife Amy of Hackettstown, N.J., along with four loving grandchildren, Rebecca L. & Colby James Morris, Wyckoff, N.J., Christian L. & Cameron E. Cochran, Hackettstown, N.J. and his loving canine companion, Sam. Lastly, words will never be sufficient in expressing our endless love & gratitude to our "adopted family", Rosa, Christopher, Bob & Debbie for their unwavering love, support and care that they provided which allowed Dad to spend his last years at his beloved home...

Laura and family, Please accept my sincerest and deepest condolences at your father's passing. I am familiar with your pain as my father was in declining health for several years before his passing. I do have memories of seeing your dad and mom at Blair events during our years there, and I even had the privilege of speaking to them on a few occasions. It was quite evident how proud they were of you. Hold onto those precious lifetime of memories of your parents, and take comfort in knowing that they are now reunited in heaven. God bless you!

Chip and Laura-We are both saddened to hear of the death of your Dad. He was a wonderful man It was such a chance that your Dad and Mom met us. It happened because your Dad saw Barry's Masonic ring and the next day he took your Dad bird hunting(he left him on a small island) and took your Mom lobstering with him! We had many laughs about that! They are now together in heaven. Your Mom told me once that the day that they met she was crazy about him as was he about her. How wonderful is that! We will miss them so much but we know they are now reunited. Carolyn and Barry Thomas

Dear Chip and family, I'm so sorry to hear the news about your Dad. As you know, I lost my father this past February. For many years, one of his favorite things to do on his daily walk was to stop and talk to your Dad. He leaves a wonderful legacy through you and your family, and I'm sure you are very proud of him. He is at peace now. Take good care. Always, Paul
