Wayne David Evans
Died: May 22, 2020
Evans
Wayne David Evans passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2020. In his 21 short years, he touched so many lives and left behind an army of people whom loved and adored him. From the moment he was born, he was a complete and utter joy. He had an infectious smile, warm and compassionate spirit, and he was the kindest soul. Those that even knew Wayne just a little say how he had the ability to bring people together and make every one feel included and special.

He was the first to help clear away dinner plates, assist the next door neighbor with groceries and he always thanked his mother, Barb, each and every night, for making dinner. He loved his mother and father enormously. He showered his mother with gifts and love, not only on mother’s day, but randomly leaving candies or flowers to show his appreciation for all of her hard work. Even as a young teen, he would save his money to purchase these gifts to show his mother just how much she meant to him. He talked at length with his father, Wayne, a carpenter by trade, about the love of his own budding construction career. He helped with his father, beginning at a young age, learning and assisting him on job sites. Every father’s day, he took his dad golfing along with his brother Griffin enjoying the time together. One of his very first tattoo’s was of his mother and father’s birth dates. To say, he was an incredible loving son is an understatement.

It was his brother, Rob, a foreman at Harrington Contractors, who introduced him to his love of excavation and heavy equipment. Wayne joined Harrington Contractors right out of high school and immediately excelled in the company. Moving quickly in the ranks, Wayne spoke with such pride of both his company and of his work. In every picture taken of Wayne at work, he was focused and smiling while operating thousand pound machinery. To find such joy in a career alludes most adults their whole life but Wayne was so fortunate to have found his passion early. He had an incredible work ethic always wanting to pick up overtime and do whatever was necessary and asked of him.

He had a wicked sense of humor and enjoyed playing jokes along with his sister, Dana, on their mother. They would loving team up to tease her and bond over long running jokes. He loved joking with his brother Griffin as well, teaming up with him, to joke with their father and spending time with his youngest sister Sky. He had the ability to move quickly from an adult conversation to speaking gently and kindly to Sky and his nieces. He cherished his moments with his nieces Emma, Hazel, Viviana and Scarlett, making sure he saw them often and thoroughly enjoyed his role as an uncle and brother.

Wayne was a gifted baseball player in high school and went on to play in a men’s soft ball league with his brother Rob. He and Rob enjoyed many nights together both on and off the field. He helped Rob with home projects and relished his time at his brother and his wife, Desiree’s, home. He had a passion for cars and loved his dog Charlie.

He loved spending time with his girlfriend of three years Carly. Wayne and Carly both attended Hackettsown High School and sweethearts. They often finished each other’s sentences and while Wayne loved the band Motley Crew, he often went to country music concerts for Carly.

He had a running joke with his cousin Madison about who was their grandmother’s favorite. Wayne, being the first born grandson on his father’s side, and Madison, the first born granddaughter, shared a special cousin bond, often joking each was Gram’s favorite and always vying to move up in the position by calling or texting Gram and then letting the other one know.

He was an incredible grandson to his grandparents Donna, Paul, Dave and Tammy and as they are lovingly known as Gram, Pop, Poppop and Nana. We know he is now in heaven with his

maternal grandparents, Grandpa and Grandma, Richard and Barbara Schmidt. They will look over him until we meet again.

Wayne is survived by his parents Barbara Schmidt and Wayne Evans. HIs siblings Dana Toro, her daughter Emma, his brother Rob Toro, his wife, Desiree, daughters Hazel, Viviana, Scarlett, his brother Griffin Evans and his sister Sky Evans. His paternal grandparents Donna and Paul Hughes and Dave and Tammy Evans. As well as his many aunts, uncles, cousins, lifelong best friend Mark and girlfriend Carly Edmunds.

We will forever be grateful to have had him in our lives, even for this short time, as he left a lasting mark on each and every life that he touched. Words cannot possibly express how much sadness we feel and how much love and joy he brought to the world.

Wayne, we love and miss you.

Funeral services will be held at Cochran Funeral Home, Hackettstown, NJ on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation in Wayne’s name to a favorite charity. As a reminder, masks must be worn at all times at the funeral and cemetery. The family would like to thank Harrington Contractors for their enormous support and generosity during this time. Just another example of how Wayne blessed so many lives and in turn had the love and support of so many.

Barb & Family - the boys have been friends for years. I can remember them playing together when we lived just houses away on 46. They spent many hours at the Field of Dreams together playing baseball & basketball. As they have become young men they all have a strong work ethic & commitment to their families. You raised him well. As a mother I watched you rearrange your many jobs to attend every single baseball game & event that was important to your son. He knew he was loved & we know your love has no ending! Wayne’s personality was giant and so is his spirit. Please stay strong & may your family draw closer than ever before to support one another & live a good life in Wayne’s memory! With love & friendship - Suzanne & John, Savannah, Jakob & John

Barb, we are at a loss for words. Wayne was a wonderful young man and will be greatly missed. We have known Wayne since he was a little boy on the wrestling mat with Anthony. The boys have had many years together at school, sports and lastly parties. I have recently seen him take care of Anthony like best friends should. I will miss him always calling me Mrs Gonzo and always being such a good friend to my Anthony. Our prayers are with your family and Wayne will never be forgotten. With our deepest sympathy and all our love. RIP Wayne.

Wayne Evans and family, Words cannot describe on how fortunate I am to have you known you since the 6th grade. You always had the happy go lucky attitude who knew how to brighten someone’s day. You were a easy listener, often humorous, and an overall respectable person. I always admired that about you. Though that many are sadden that you are no longer with us, we know that you are in Gods hands now and that you are at peace. We will certainly miss you and will meet up with you again! In warmest regards, James Clarke

Barb, your son has left a forever mark on so many...We will always remember during those first two weeks after Sandy hit, when our restaurant was one of the only places that had power, you and Wayne worked tirelessly together to take care of the MANY people coming in looking for a hot meal, or just a cup of coffee--Wayne worked non-stop with a smile on his face making everyone feel at home. He will be missed by so many... Wayne will be your forever angel, " everywhere I go, every smile I see, I know you are there, smiling back at me ." Rest now, Wayne, you have earned it...

Barbara and Wayne: My heart is broken. I mostly spent time with Wayne when he was on our baseball team for a few seasons. He is one of the best kids I ever coached. Calm, pleasant, hard worker who never acted as if he was a better player than anyone else, even though he was. The last conversation we had was at his senior baseball banquet and he approached me, hugged me and said "Coach, thanks for all your help in baseball". It gave me chills then and I will never forget it. Now it will be my best memory of this great kid/man. R.I.P. Wayne Coach Ritchie
