Richard (Rich) VanAtta

Richard (Rich) VanAtta, 63, of Byram Township, NJ, died peacefully in his sleep on January 5, 2014 at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville, NJ following a lengthy illness. Rich is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Saga VanAtta of Charlotte, NC, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and by many good friends.
Rich was born in Oak Park, Illinois, and graduated from Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park, Illinois. He later moved to Byram, NJ where he worked in the manufacturing and warehouse industry, including the former Lucent Technologies facility at the International Trade Center in Stanhope, NJ for many years. Rich was predeceased by his parents; Margaret and Gordon VanAtta, his brother; Darrell Notara, all long-time residents of Byram.
Rich was an associate member of the Stanhope Fire Department for more than 20 years. An avid sports fan, he was also past president of the Byram Men's Softball League.
A visitation for Rich will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2014, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840 with a Funeral Service to be held at 4:00 PM during the visitation.
Interment on Monday will be private.
