Vincent  R.  Abatemarco
Died: Apr 6, 2020

Vincent Rocco Abatemarco, 65, of Allamuchy, NJ, died on Monday, April 6, 2020, at Hackettstown Medical Center after a brief battle with the COVID-19 disease. Born on January 10, 1955, in Munich, Germany to Thomas and Margaretha (Bauer) Abatemarco, he moved with his parents and brothers to the United States in 1961 at age six, traveling aboard the S.S. America. Vinny’s father, who had worked for Radio Free Europe after serving in the United States Army in France and Germany, returned to his native New York City to work for Time magazines. The family settled in Englewood, NJ, after a brief stay in Brooklyn, NY. Vinny attended Roosevelt School in Englewood and St. John the Evangelist School in Leonia, NJ before graduating from Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood. He also attended Northampton Community College.

Vinny married the love of his life Geraldine (Geri) Burns on November 13, 1976 in Leonia, NJ and moved to Cliffside Park, NJ before residing in Bergenfield, NJ, Stroudsburg, PA, and most recently Panther Valley in Allamuchy, NJ. He was a devoted husband and father, and a good friend to many. Extremely generous with his time, he always lent a hand when needed as he was very handy and could solve any problem. He had a fun-loving sense of humor that he freely shared. An avid traveler, he traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia for business but particularly enjoyed vacations with Geri in Palm Springs, California and Palm Beach, Florida. He also enjoyed a life-long interest in photography, relaxing poolside with a good book, grilling for his family (cheeseburgers being a specialty), and his beloved dog Sammy.

He spent the early part of his career in movie theater management before spending the following 37 years in the international cargo-container industry, most recently as Terminal Manager for Integrated Industries, where he specialized in the large-scale modification of shipping containers to specialized uses, including his management of the buildout of Island Oyster on Governors Island in New York Harbor. Prior to that, he was with Intermodal Transportation Services, a division of GAB Business Services; Unicon International of San Francisco; Italian ocean carrier Lloyd Trestino; and TRS Container Services.

Vinny was predeceased by his parents, brother Michael and sister-in-law, Kathy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Geri, their two daughters, Christine and Denise, daughter-in-law Jessica Dawes, brother John Abatemarco, nieces Tatiana Jenss, Nicole Caraballo, and Tiffany Abatemarco as well as two grand nieces and two grand nephews. He was looking forward to welcoming his first grandson in July 2020.
A mass of Christian burial and funeral services will be held at the Church of Good Shepherd in Andover, NJ on a later date when friends and family may safely gather to pay their respects. Internment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, New Jersey. Memorial donations in Vinny’s honor can be made to the American Cancer Society.
