Foertsch, Joseph Paul May 29, 1951 - December 11, 2020

Joseph Paul Foertsch, passed away at his home in Hackettstown, NJ on Friday, December, 11, 2020 after a two year battle with esophageal cancer.

Joey was born May 29, 1951 to Joseph and Frieda Foertsch.  Joey grew up in the Ironbound “Down Neck” section of Newark, NJ where he attended St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church and grammar school and Eastside High School. Joey retired in 2009 from Teamsters Local 560 where he was employed as a truck driver for many years. Since his retirement, Joey has enjoyed flea marketing and wheeling and dealing antique tools and transportation related memorabilia.

Joey had two families: his immediate family and his late wife, Theresa (Gallagher) Foertsch’s family. Joey is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frieda Foertsch, his wife Theresa Foertsch (Gallagher), and his brother-in-law John (Jack) Gallagher formerly of Hackettstown.  Joey is survived by his sisters, Mary Gabryelski of Clifton, NJ, Joyce Foertsch of Lebanon, NJ, Diana Hague of Brooksville, FL, sisters-in-law, Barbara Gallagher of Nashville, TN; Dr. Madeline Edwards of Chatham, NJ; Dr. Mary Slavin of Edison NJ, and Hugh Gallagher of Bridgewater NJ, girlfriend Sharon Blackwell of Hackettstown, NJ, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Joey will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and passion for fast, clean cars. Since Joey’s passing, his family has been contacted by many friends sharing stories of how he influenced their love of cars in his early years.  Joey, we know you are shifting gears in the clouds.

Cremation has taken place and Joey will be interred at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ next to his beloved wife, Theresa. Family will plan a celebration of Joey’s life for a later time next year when it is safe to gather.
