Robert Joseph Mulvihill Jr. (Bobby) passed away suddenly on December 7th 2023. Bobby was born in Newton, NJ on January 10th, 1961 to Robert (Shakey) Mulvhill Sr. and Carolyn Louise (Hickey) Mulvihill. Bobby grew up in Hackettstown, New Jersey, attended Saint Mary’s Elementary and graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1979. After graduation, Bobby became an active member of the Hackettstown (Cataract Hose) Fire Department. Shortly after, he took a job at Hercules Powder Company in Kenvil, NJ where he was a line supervisor. He worked there for approximately 11 years before starting at Hillwick. In the height of Bobby’s career at Hillwick, he had a fleet of over 40 trucks. Bobby was known near and far for his fleet and took pride in each and every one of them. In addition to Hillwick, he also worked with Vulcan/SRM, formerly known as New York Sand and Stone, where he ran their yard for years as well as dispatching.
Bobby was never one to sit and relax, he liked to take on as many projects as possible, leading him to his next big endeavor, Mason Street Grill. While running a successful trucking company and bar, Bobby thought it was a great idea to take on the role as an officer and member of the Jefferson Township Rescue Squad . And if that wasn’t enough, Bobby joined the Jefferson Township Economic Development Committee, he was the vice president of the Jefferson Township Republican Committee, a member of the Jefferson Township Republican Club, a member of the Jefferson Township Winter Stroll Committee, and also a member of the Jefferson Township Chamber of Commerce. Many friends told him to run for mayor, and believe it or not, he said he would think about it. Somewhere in between all of Bobby’s roles, he still enjoyed his hobbies which included his Harley’s and collecting antique cars and trucks and rebuilding them. Bobby was a kind, generous man, who had a deep passion for his community. Put others before himself, and was never too busy for anyone or anything. He was a legend in the trucking business, a legend on the lake, and a true gentleman who will be missed by so many.
Bobby is survived by his sister, Michele (Shelly) Mulvihill, Shannon, and his three loving children, Carly and her husband, Shawn, Kaitlin, and Nicholas. And their two dogs, Nutsy and Harley, and their two cats, Ariel and Amber. He is predeceased by his mother, Carolyn and father, Robert.
Family and Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday December 12th from 2pm-8pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. A service celebrating Bob’s life will begin at 11am on Wednesday, December 13th at Cochran Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jefferson Township Rescue Squad. 827 Route 15 South, Lake Hopatcong, NJ 07849.

December 11, 2023 at 4:48 pmMy Wife Robin and I are very saddened to hear of Bob’s sudden passing.
Your write up of Bob’s life and dedication to Community expresses perfectly how we remember him.
Just a true gift to his towns, and one who made time and space available for any need he could.
I know these words will not ease the pain, please know we have you before our FATHER in Heaven ask HIM to provide Comfort as Only HE can, through Christ Our LORD.
GOD Bless
