Catherine C. Cross “Kay”, age 82, of Mount Arlington, NJ died Wednesday, January 1, 2025 after a brief illness while surrounded by family.   Kay was born November 29, 1942 in Glen Ridge, NJ and grew up in Harrison.  She was an only child, her parents were the late Joseph and Catherine G. (Greene) Cavanaugh.

Kay was always a good student and attended Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington where she graduated at the top of her class.  After starting a family at a young age Kay continued her education at County College of Morris and Centenary College part time, eventually earning her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.  An accomplishment she was extremely proud of.

Kay was previously employed by Stanhope school as board secretary and later Roxbury Board of Education as their Business Administrator.

Kay was an avid reader, liked to crochet, and rescued many animals over the years.   However, what she cherished the most was watching her children and grandchildren play sports.  Over the course of 50 years she rarely missed a game, match, or meet.   Kay also loved to travel with her family and created many memories while enjoying trips to Hawaii, Disney, Mexico, Italy, Alaska and Canada.

Kay is survived by three sons, David Cross and wife Donna, Eric Cross and wife Karen, Glenn Cross, five grandchildren, Ryan Cross (Kayla), Morgan Kaplan (Ian), Alex Cross, Danielle Cross, Jack Cross, three great grandchildren, Brayden and Ava Kaplan, Logan Cross and many beloved cousins.

​A celebration of life Mass will be held at St. Luke Church, Long Valley, NJ on Saturday, February 1st at 11:00AM.
