Barbara D. Cartal, 97, of Allamuchy, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025. She was the daughter of Quint Liggett and Myrtle Brattain.
Barbara was born in Rae, Pennsylvania on January 29, 1928.
Her family moved to Sewal, Iowa, and eventually to Allamuchy, New Jersey, where she graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1945.
Married and raising a family, Barbara earned her teaching degrees from Trenton State and Lehigh University. She taught in Washington Borough Schools for 25 years, mostly at Taylor Street Elementary, with commitment and dedication, retiring in 1992.
During her retirement, Barbara was an avid bridge player and participated in many tournaments. She loved playing cards with family and friends, enjoyed playing golf, and taking long walks. She was also a voracious reader and loved completing crossword puzzles.
She was an active supporter of the arts and a member of many environmental and wildlife groups. Barbara moved to Forks Township, Pennsylvania in 2004. While living there, she served as chair of the Upstream Farms Community Center and Hospitality Committees.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Amy Cartal-Falk and husband Robert, of Williamsport, PA; her sons: Todd and wife Susan of Mansfield Township, NJ; and Guy and wife Lisa of Wind Gap, PA. Barbara was blessed with six grandchildren: Caitlin (Patrick) Gallagher; Lara (Ron) Zaras; Adrien (Victoria); Tyler, Bryan and Genivieve. Three great-grandchildren: Nora, Sylvie and Trey. Her sisters Marjorie, Jean, Bonnie and brother Craft, all predeceased her. Her youngest sister, Nancy Pormann, survives along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private.
