Dennis C. Kohrherr, Sr.
August 6, 1943 – January 13, 2026

Dennis C. Kohrherr, Sr., a family man, proud veteran, and lifelong adventurer, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the age of 82.

Born to Charles Kohrherr and Emma Konrad on August 6, 1943, Dennis lived a life full of love, service, and passion. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Yvonne (Tillou), whom he met in 1968 and married in July 1970. Their love story lasted until Yvonne’s passing in August 2013, leaving Dennis heartbroken. In 2014, Dennis found companionship again with Carolyn Ford, and together they traveled extensively until her passing in February 2025.

Dennis proudly served his country, enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1961. He graduated at the top of his class from Radarman Class A School and served aboard the USS Mattabasset (AOG-52) until 1964. After his military service, Dennis explored various careers—from cable installer and postal worker to landscaper and lost luggage delivery driver—before finding his true calling in law enforcement. In 1976, he joined the Union City Police Department, where he served with distinction and retired as a Lieutenant in 2004.

Never one to slow down, Dennis worked as a private investigator and limousine driver during retirement, even chauffeuring celebrities such as Blondie, Julio Iglesias, and Daniel Rooney. His love for music also brought him success as a nightclub singer and drummer with various bands including the Dom Perry Orchestra, The Board of Directors and the Barry Tee Trio, performing alongside talents like Joe Pesci, Frankie Vincent, and Jimmy Garrett at iconic venues including the Copacabana. Known for his lively spirit, Dennis and his bandmates were famously banned from the state of Michigan—a story he loved to share.

An adventurer at heart, Dennis earned his pilot license and spent countless hours flying single-engine planes. His zest for life was evident in everything he did.

Dennis is survived by his children: Karen Strout (Dave), Susan Kohrherr (Rob Magrino), and Dennis Kohrherr (Katherine); his brother Charles Kohrherr (Kathleen); and his cherished grandchildren: Sarah Strout (Alec Lederer), Allison Strout (Kyle Roff), Ethan Kohrherr, and Owen Kohrherr. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Christine Halter, Karen Buchanan (David), Kathy Longiell (Michael), and Carl Halter (Patricia).

Dennis will be remembered for his unwavering love for family, his adventurous spirit, and his ability to light up any room with music and laughter. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Cochran Funeral Home from 10:00am – 12:00pm with a Memorial service starting at 12:00 noon.  The burial of ashes will be immediately after the Memorial service at Hackettstown Union Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
