John Arthur Andrews
December 28, 1928 – November 17, 2025
John Arthur Andrews of Nutley NJ passed away at age 96 of natural causes. John was born in Pearl River NY to the late Edith and John Andrews. His wife Etta Andrews of 58 years passed away in October 2021.
John went into the U.S. Navy in 1946 and then onto Lafayette College in Easton PA graduating with a chemical engineering degree. On his Honeymoon John and his wife Etta took a 24-day cruise around the world stopping in numerous ports from Europe to Africa and through the Panama Canal. He spent most of his career as a chemical engineer at AIG International Group and traveled for AIG between North and South America. On his 25th wedding anniversary he took his wife Etta to Rio de Janeiro Brazil. John loved to travel.
He was also on the World’s Fair Collectors Society attending numerous Worlds Fairs starting with the 1939 NY World’s Fair and additionally the 1964 NY Worlds, Montreal Quebec Expo 67, New Orleans 84, Seville Spain 92, and Hanover Germany in 2000.
He also coached numerous baseball and soccer teams for his son’s Stephen and Clifford and loved taking his family to Ocean City MD every summer for two- or three-week’s vacation to body surf and boogie board. He was a was a fearless and excellent swimmer.
He was also Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed collecting and distributing turkeys at Thanksgiving to those less fortunate.
He was an avid reader, loved building train sets in his basement and growing vegetables in the yard when he wasn’t watching the Mets and the Giants play.
One of his favorite things to do was to watch his granddaughter play college field hockey driving to every home and away game while in his 80’s.
He will be greatly missed and is survived by his son Stephen, Grand Daughter Cayla, son Clifford, daughter in law Louise, niece and nephew Judy and Rob.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 6 -9 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J.
The funeral will be held 10:30 am on Friday, November 21, 2025 at St. Jude R.C. Church, 17 Mt Olive Road, Budd Lake, NJ with Father Antonio Gaviria officiating. Burial will be in Hackettstown Union Cemetery, following the service.
