Doris Helen Venino Baker passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024 at Heath Village in Hackettstown at age 99. Doris was born in East Orange, New Jersey February 28, 1925 the daughter of Helen and Frank Venino where she spent a happy childhood with her two younger sisters Joan and Janet, living at the Jersey shore every summer. She graduated from Columbia High School in South Orange, and worked as a secretary to the President of Rare Chemicals in Harrison after graduating from Washington
School of Secretaries in Newark. In later years she worked in her son Edward’s dental office until she retired at age 80.
She married her husband of 57 years, Edward Everett Baker, in 1947. They lived in North Caldwell for 28 years before moving to Panther Valley in Hackettstown where they enjoyed an active life golfing, playing bridge, visiting their hunting and fishing club in Pennsylvania, and spending time with their family and many friends. She was an excellent cook with the gift of hospitality. The Trinity Methodist Church in Hackettstown was central to their lives, both volunteering at the Community Service Program. Everett. died unexpectedly in 2004, but Doris continued to use her gift of compassion to serve others, making meals and visiting the sick both in and outside of the church.
Preceding Doris in death are her two sons, Edward Everett (Constance) Baker and Donald Frank (Leonora) Baker and grandchildren Melissa (Lincoln) Jenkins, Meredith (Geno) Mayes, Anne (Andrew) Herrmann, Colin (Heather) Baker, and Kara (James) Hamfeldt, and great grandchildren Lance, Analise, Callie, Laina, Cash, Vaughn, Brady, Parker and Cooper.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 10:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 213 Main Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
Entombment will be December 31, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Hackettstown Union Cemetery, Mountain Avenue, Hackettstown, NJ 07840
