Joan M. Buttner, 89 of Hackettstown NJ passed away quietly in her home early Thursday morning on February 9th, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. Joan was born in Madison NJ to the late George and Cecelia (Carey)Taylor on November 1, 1933. She attended Morristown High school where she met her future husband, George Buttner. Joan was a good wife, Mother, sibling and friend. She lived in Hackettstown for over 50yrs.
Joan worked as a switchboard operator first at the Governor Morris Hotel in Morristown NJ, then at the Panther Valley country club in Allamuchy NJ and finally at Hackettstown community Hospital where she worked for over 30yrs and was known as “the voice of Hackettstown Hospital.” Even after she retired at the age of 80, she would exercise her mind by reciting all the extension numbers and Dr.s phone numbers she recited and dialed for so many years at the switchboard. Joan had a beautiful smile and was a lot of fun. Even to the end she was able to bring out some humor and make everyone in the room belly laugh.
Joan had many interests including singing and enjoying certain musicians like Harry Chapin, David Garrett and the Bee Gees. Joan and her late Husband George were very talented with their creativity in bringing new life to old furniture and loved fixing up and decorating their house, making it into a beautiful home admired by many people. She especially enjoyed sitting in her back yard by her little fish pond next to her garden watching the fish swimming around and watching the birds through her binoculars through her bay window. She grew along the years into a wonderful cook who made the best spaghetti and meatballs, homemade turkey and pea soups and potato salad. Joan was also an impeccable dresser. For her part in Charitable support throughout the years she had been a member of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and donated regularly for many years. Joan also had much love to give throughout the years to all of her beautiful grand and great- grandchildren. They all brightened her life greatly.
Joan is survived by Her children: Garrett and wife Debbie (D’arelli) Buttner of Blairstown NJ, Daughter-in-Law Patty (Reeves) Buttner of Round Lake NY, Lisa Buttner of Fredon NJ, Brian and hiswife Maria (Hayden) Buttner of Hope NJ, Christian and his wife Sara (Fink) Buttner of Wellford South Carolina, Sister Ruth (Taylor) Mills of Hackettstown NJ, Brother Paul and his Wife Joan Taylor of Mesa Arizona and Sister-in-law’s Gayle (Buttner) Sloane and Brenda (Buttner) and husband Gary Nichols of Washington State. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jesse, Sarah, Ethan, Brent, Maxwell, Margaux, Collette, Angelino, Alexandra and a soon to be arriving new granddaughter. Joan is also survived by Many great Grandchildren including a soon to arrive great grandson. Joan has been predeceased by her husband George and her second son Ronald who are missed dearly every day.

February 15, 2023 at 10:01 pmDear Buttner
My Wife Robin & I were very sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing, and though it may not have been totally unexpected, the sting of the reality is still there.
We know our words will fall short of easing any pain, but please know we will have you all in prayer asking our FATHER in Heaven to provide the Comfort HE Alone can, through Christ Jesus our LORD.
GOD bless you all during this difficult time.
