Thomas J Collier Jr. passed away Wednesday December 14, 2022 in Morristown NJ. Thomas was born May 17, 1931 in Brooklyn NY. He attended Our Lady Help of Christians and St. Augustine’s High School. Thomas entered the US Navy in 1952 and served as an aviation electrician and earned his pilot’s license while in the Navy.
Tom began a career with the New York Telephone Company as a lineman when he was 17 years old. He enrolled in the New York Institute of Technology and received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering while attending school at night for 16 years. While working for the phone company, Tom met Patricia Henry and was married in August of 1959. Tom enjoyed a career as a Director at AT&T and later as a Vice President for Shared Technologies in Hartford, CT. He enjoyed working in NYC for over 38 years while living in River Edge, NJ. Tom and Pat relocated to Schooley’s Mountain in 1983 and enjoyed their time living in the country.
Tom’s greatest love was his family. He enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage to Pat and is survived by three children, Catherine Collier Frates (and son-in-law Joe), Alison Collier Walsh (and son-in-law Jim) and a son, Thomas E Collier. Tom also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Joey and Erin, and his great grandson Alex. With his gentle personality and quiet demeaner, Tom was loved and respected by all who knew him. Tom and Pat became snowbirds after finding a home on Marco Island, FL. They enjoyed over 30 years on the gulf coast spending time with childhood friends as well as making many new lifelong friends. Tom loved views of the gulf from his balcony and was active within his South Seas community.
A celebration of Tom’s life will include services at Cochran Funeral Home on Sunday December 18th from 4 to 7 pm. The rite of Christian burial will be held at Church of the Assumption, 302 High Street in Hackettstown on Monday December 19, at 1 pm.
