Elcock, Gerald C. September 23, 1935 - September 15, 2025

Date of Funeral

September 27, 2025

Gerald C. Elcock, age 89, of Hackettstown died Monday, September 15, 2025 in Hackettstown.  Gerald was born September 23, 1935 in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Gerald and Ethel (Bass) Elcock.  In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jane (Ensinger) Elcock, his son, Bruce Elcock and his daughter-in-law, Cynthia Elcock.

Gerald proudly served in the US Army from 1955 to 1958.  He was employed by Beneficial, Gladstone, NJ for 30 years as a Program Analyst.

He built a life defined by hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family. As a young man he enjoyed collecting, stamps, and coins, pursuits that reflected his keen eye for detail. That grew into a passion for researching stocks and creating his own “mutual funds,” carefully studying markets and building portfolios with both discipline and imagination.

Education was deeply important to him. While working full-time and raising a family, he attended Fairleigh Dickinson University at night to earn his MBA, setting an example of perseverance and dedication. He approached even the smallest tasks with purpose—so much so that he was known to cut the lawn in his suit pants after work. Ever mindful of time, he moved his family closer to his office so he could get home sooner.

When his beloved wife Jane was diagnosed with cancer, he devoted himself fully to her care. Through every stage of her illness, he showed compassion and strength, becoming her steadfast companion and caregiver. His loyalty and love in those difficult years remain an enduring example to his family.

His greatest legacy was the sense of security he created for those he loved. Because of him, his children grew up knowing they were safe and supported, free to take risks and pursue their dreams.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his wisdom, and his steady presence.

Gerald is survived by two loving daughters, Marion McDonald, Susan Colbert and husband Rob, a cherished son, Jonathan Elcock, four grandchildren, Benjamin Colbert and wife Madeline, Anna Colbert, Matthew “Paddy” Colbert and Alastair McDonald.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 27 from 11:30 am – 12:00 pm at Madison Methodist Church, 24 Madison Avenue, Madison, NJ.

The funeral will be held 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the church with Rev. Mark Schol officiating.  Burial will be in Bedminster Reformed Church Cemetery, Bedminster Township following services.
