Ella R. Yager, 97, died Tuesday, April 14 at Heath Village, Hackettstown, where she was an active resident for over 20 years. Ella was born March 25, 1923 in Kleinrudestedt, Germany. She came to the United States in November 1924 with her parents Walter and Gertrude Rost, who were the owners of the former Walter’s Corner Tavern in Tranquility.
Ella was a long time member of Panther Valley Ecumenical Church. She was employed by the Hackettstown Board of Education and served as Principal’s Secretary at Willow Grove School.
Ella was active in the Hackettstown Education Association and was a member of the NJEA. Since retirement she was active in the Warren County Retirees’ Education Association. With her second husband, Robert Yager, she enjoyed square dancing with the Warren Wheelers.
Ella was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Ultz, in 1972; her second husband, Robert Yager in 2003, and her younger sister, Mary Loss, in 2015.
Surviving are a son, Larry Ultz and wife Cylvia, of Hackettstown, NJ, two step sons, Robert Yager and wife Donna, of Manchester, NH and David Yager and wife Debbie, of Philadelphia, PA, five grandchildren, Christopher Yager, Andrew Yager, Jessica Yager, Benjamin Yager and Ellyn Ultz, and five nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life and renewal will be held in Spring 2021 at Panther Valley Ecumenical Church.
