Adele Marion Flanagan, the daughter of George and Marion Fitch Hadgkiss, was born on September 23, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated in 1947 from John Adams High School, New York City, New York.
On August 25, 1951, Adele married the love of her life, Edward Vincent Flanagan (Eddy) In Richmond Hill, Queens, New York. They shared a beautiful life together for over sixty-five years. They lived in New Hyde Park, Long Island, New York, while raising their family. Adele worked full-time as an administrative assistant at Long Island Jewish Hospital, Queens, New York, until her retirement in 1990.
Adele and Eddy loved the Jersey Shore so much so, they purchased her father’s home at the Jersey Shore when he passed away in 1987. Eventually, they retired full time in a Leisure Village retirement community located in Manchester, New Jersey. Adele and Eddy became the experts on all the quiet beaches, local performances and early bird restaurant specials in the area.
Family and friends were always important to Adele and Eddy, that is why they remained living at the Jersey Shore in retirement for thirty years. Adele and Eddy also enjoyed being Floridian snowbirds during the winter months into their eighties. They shared many fond memories while visiting friends, families and sites in Florida. In the last two years of Adele’s life, she moved to Hackettstown, New Jersey to follow her partner in crime, Joan. They were known by many as “Thelma and Louise.”
Throughout Adele’s life, her laughter, her sense of humor, her sense of adventure and her caring touched the lives of so many people. Adele loved antiquing, gardening, animals, outings, and gatherings with family and friends. Adele passed away at her home on Friday, February 11, 2023. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Eddy, son Edward William, son Thomas, brother James Hadgkiss and her parents. She leaves behind her son William, her sister-in-law Joan Hadgkiss, her grandsons: Daniel, Michael Patrick, Ross, Austin, her nieces: Christina Gleason (Matthew) and Patricia Murray (Daniel), her grandnieces: Heather Hadgkiss, Sara Hadgkiss, Caitlyn Gleason, Lauren Gleason, Natalie Murray, Tess Murray, her grandnephew: Jeremy Hadgkiss and her great-grandnephew Jordan.
A burial service will be held Monday, February 27, 2023 from 1:30-2:30 am at Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown Pennsylvania, 18940. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at the Jersey Shore at later date.
