Born in Jersey City July 10 ,1940 son of the late Edward and Gertrude (Monesees) Fuehrer. In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by his sister, Maryanne Fuehrer. Ed learned life lessons and developed friendships playing basketball and other sports in the schoolyard of PS# 27 and exploring the Secaucus meadowlands. His family owned a cottage in Neshanic Station, NJ where they would spend time during the summer . He enjoyed exploring the countryside and became friends with local farmers, sharing a love of the farm lifestyle, open spaces, and the outdoors. After high school, he joined the Navy and explored the Mediterr anean and Europe as a boiler operator (Fireman) on the U.S.S. Henley DD726. Ed continued to stay involved with fellow shipmates. After his discharge in 1961, he started a career in the pharmaceutical field, and at the time he was the youngest to receive a blue seal license to operate high pressure boilers until his “so-called” retirement, always needing to stay busy. He then worked in the boiler room for Sisters of Charity in Caldwell. Marrying Doreen (O’Conner) in 1966 his wife of 57 years. Ed shared and instilled his strong work ethic, caring for people, love of biking, camping, skiing, kayaking, and exploring with his son Greg Fuehrer from a young age. Doreen had to nurse Ed back from his many mishaps and told him to slow down, but he never did. Ed’s love of the outdoors and dedication to friends found its way to Greg and his wife Susan as well as their children, Sean and Jennifer Fuehrer.
In 2015 Ed moved to Panther Valley in Allamuchy Township, NJ. After moving there he went exploring the backroads, taking the longest but most scenic routes, building lifelong friendships, introducing others to his hobbies, and continually sharing stories. Ed passed away on January 10, 2024 in Allamuchy Township, NJ at the age of 83 but his memory will live on in his family, friends and the many stories that he told.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial for Ed on Sunday January 21st from 1:00-4:00 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Those wishing to leave online condolences may do so at www.cochranfuneral.com
