Gardella, John W. July 4, 1942 - April 11, 2025

John William (Jack) Gardella, 82, of Mansfield Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at Hackettstown Hospital on April 11, 2025, with his family by his side.  Jack was born in Bayonne, New Jersey on July 4, 1942, to the late John C. Gardella and Evelyn J. Gardella (nee) Hunter.

A lifelong resident of Hackettstown, Jack was a proud graduate of Hackettstown High School class of 1960 before going on to serve honorably in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. His commitment to service and hard work continued throughout his life as a 50-year member of Laborers Local 472. Known for his strong work ethic and steadfast nature, Jack took pride in every task he undertook.

Jack was a devoted husband to his late wife of 56 years Edna F. Gardella (nee) Vander Gaag. Together they built a loving home that became the heart of their family. He was a cherished father to his three sons Jason, Kurt, and Derik, and a beloved father-in-law to their wives Debbie, Conni, and Robyn, as well as a proud grandfather (Opa) to his five grandchildren Jason, Jessica, Isabella, Hannah, and Julianna, through whom his legacy continues.

He is also remembered with love by his two sisters Jane Powers (husband Floyd) and Judy Sagan (husband Gregory), as well as his brother-in-law Rob Schot (wife Anneke) of Zeeland, Netherlands, and many others who were touched by his warmth and presence.

Jack found great joy in the outdoors. Whether hunting or fishing, he embraced nature with enthusiasm and reverence. These passions reflected his appreciation of life’s simple pleasures and the peace he found outside the bustle of daily life. Above all else, Jack was a family man, steadfast in his love for those closest to him. He treasured time spent at home on the “Ponderosa” and took pride in the life he built with Edna. His strength of character and unwavering devotion will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life well lived.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, May 31st, from 10am to 1pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ, 07840 with services beginning at 12:30 pm.
