Gerald Francis Cheney November 4, 1950 - June 3, 2020

Gerald Francis Cheney passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. He was 69 years old.

Jerry was born on November 4, 1950, in Passaic, New Jersey, to William and Anna (Grazano) Cheney. Jerry is survived by his wife Terri (Tramontin), his children, Michael Cheney and Julia Taylor, Kristine and Joseph Bodnar, his sister, Susan Engferand and her husband Charlie, his three grandchildren, Ella, Kaleb, and Beckett. Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers Billy and Richard Cheney.

Most would agree it is not possible to summarize Jerry. Yes, he was a loud and sometimes stubborn person, but beneath that he cared more than he would admit and always had this innate ability to calm all anxieties, show you the bigger picture, and make you believe that all would be okay in the end. Above all, Jerry will be missed for his humor… he was one of the funniest people by those who knew him and life will not be the same without him here.

Jerry is riding free on his Harley in heaven.

Arrangements were made with Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. The viewing will be held on Monday, June, 8, 2020 from 11 am-12 Noon. Due to current COVID restrictions all will be required to wear face masks, ten people will be allowed to enter at a time.

A private Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 8 at St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Oxford, NJ with Father Charles Sabella officiating.  Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery, Hope, NJ (the cemetery restriction rules are limited to 25 people with masks and social distancing required.)

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Barnyard Sanctuary, c/o Tamala Lester, 31 Stark Road, Columbia, NJ  07832 in memory of Jerry.

This was such sad and sudden news. I knew Jerry for many years and most recently worked with him at Wyndham. He was always kind and went out of his way in many occasions to help me and many others. He alwaoys talked about how proud he was of his kids and what a kick he got out of his grandchildren – I can just picture his smile as he talked about them! Friendships like his are hard to find and I know he will be missed by many. RIP Jerry and thank you for making my life a little happier while you were here!
