His Highway to Heaven
Roy Iannaccone, 76, of Mansfield Twp. Warren County passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center with his family by his side holding his hands. Roy was born on September 23, 1948 in Paterson NJ to the late Jerry and Margaret (DiMaio) Iannaccone. He grew up in Fair Lawn NJ graduating from Fair Lawn High School in 1967.
Roy was a proud American and Veteran, serving his County in The US Air Force from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam War. Roy lived in West Paterson after him and his wife Roz married before moving to Mansfield Twp. NJ in 1978 where they would reside and start a family.
Roy was a dedicated NJ State Employee for 42 years before his retirement in 2008. He was a Crew Supervisor for the NJ Department of Transportation in Bedminster, NJ. Roy loved his work, and truly wanted to make a difference, even at times when he knew it was impossible, he still voiced his concerns and opinions. Roy grew excited with the anticipation of a snow storm, or any wintery mix coming in. Overseeing the snow plows and salt spreaders during snowstorms, using his judgement to keep the highways safe gave him gratification.
As a young worker he was an equipment operator who ran the roller, paver, dump truck, and jack hammer just to name a few. As a crew supervisor he took pride in maintaining and getting the highways back up and functional after accidents, tracker trailer overturns, fires, oil spills, and major potholes for sections of interstates 287, 78, Rt. 22 and 206 along with other streets and roads in the Bedminster area to tip top shape.
At home Roy loved working outside mowing his yard, mulching his leaves, getting his bushes and trees pristine. In his younger days, Roy would plant a garden every summer, go bike riding with is son, vacation down the shore and New England. Roy reveled in walking and spending time with his beloved dog Freedom, who he is now with in Heaven. Roy enjoyed going for long car rides checking out roads and bridges, exploring new towns, and the Countryside. Passing the farms and cows put a smile on his face. Roy had the gift of gab, he loved talking, getting to know someone, asking countless questions. He had a joke or nickname for everyone who crossed his path. You were sure to have a laugh when around him.
Roy is survived by his devoted wife Rosalind (Yankowski) Iannaccone who would have been married 50 years this May 3, his loving son Brian Iannaccone who was his best friend and main care giver. His daughter Linda Kerr, his forever Linzee Cupcake and husband Joshua and his granddaughters, Liana Kerr and Brielle Kerr.
Visitation will be held at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 2-6 pm.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Mary on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 10 am. Burial will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Andover, NJ
