My beloved mother, Katherine Combs Robinson, was born on September 9, 1938 in Queens, New York to the late Walter Combs and Dorothy (Zimmerman) Calloway. She was the third of four children, her only brother preceded her in the afterlife in June of 2020. She departed this life on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 to meet and to be together again with her husband Sylvester, who also preceded her in the afterlife in June of 2019.
Katherine was educated in the New York public school system, graduating from The High School of Fashion Industries in Manhattan, New York in May of 1957. She worked for several years as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company and then as an appointment scheduler and tax preparer for H & R Block.
Katherine met the love of her life, Sylvester Robinson, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They were married in November of 1973 in Millbourne, Pennsylvania and had one son, Daryl C Robinson.
They moved from Philadelphia to New Jersey in 1976 and built a amazing life together for the last 44 years
Katherine devoted much of her time to her family and son. She enjoyed sewing and would frequently sew curtains and various clothing pieces to wear. She also enjoyed road trips to visit family, dinners during the holidays with family and long conversations with Sylvester. Over the years Katherine grew to be an avid collector, collecting stamps and coins which she learned from her Uncle Milford, but grew a love for collecting Precious Moments porcelain pieces and proudly display them for all to see.
Katherine will always be remembered by family and friends as very pleasant, warm personality and being well loved. She was always known for having a beautiful smile and a sense of humor.
Katherine leaves to cherish with fond memories: her devoted and loving son, Daryl Combs Robinson; her God-daughter Katherine Mack; two sisters, Shirley (Paul) Evans of Philadelphia, PA and Eleanor Combs of Naugatuck, CT; four sisters- in-law, Frances (Regina) Robinson, Clarona (Solon, both deceased) Watkins, Julia (Leroy, deceased) Drake, Josephine (William, deceased) Robinson, one brother-in-law, William (deceased) Robinson, Life-long childhood friend, Annette “Betty” Mack and a host of Loving relatives and friends.
“If roses grow in heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for me, Place them in my mother’ arms and tell her they’re from me.”
Visitation will be held at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 4-8 pm
Burial and graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 8th at Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ at 11 am.
