George Kober of Hackettstown New Jersey passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown New Jersey. George was born in Hackettstown, graduated from Hackettstown high school with the class of 1955 and has been a beloved fixture in town for the last 87 years.
After high school he started working at Mayberry fuel oil Then at hobby heat and power where he retired after 21 years of service. But retirement was never really an option for George. He continued working keeping the grounds at Pequest Cemetery in rock Ridge golf course. While he retired from working at Pequest, he continued keeping the grounds at the golf course. He was planning on starting again in April, George was never one to slow down. He was a voracious reader and could carry on a conversation about almost anything. But nothing gave him more joy than his grandchildren. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life.
George was predeceased by his sister, Sharon and survived by his children Debora Basel Holiday and Robert Basel, his grandchildren Steven Holiday, Kristin Holiday and Robby Basel and by his brothers, James Kober and Mel Kober and his cousin Barry Mayberry.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 4 to 8 PM at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown New Jersey. The funeral service will also be held at Cochran‘s on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11 AM with Chaplin Mario Spadaro officiating. Burial will take place at Pequest Union Cemetery in Great Meadows, New Jersey following the service.
The family will be hosting a celebration of life on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at the independence firehouse at 1 PM. All are welcome to celebrate an amazing father, grandfather, brother, friend, and all around great human being!
