Malaska, Theresa Marie January 17, 1927 - February 4, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Theresa Marie Malaska (Tessie) on February 4th, 2025, in Pompano Beach, FL. Born on January 17, 1927, in Great Meadows, NJ, “Tessie” Klimas led a remarkable life of 98 years filled with love, kindness, and devotion to family.

Tessie, daughter of the late Helen and Victor Klimas, was predeceased by her husband, John, and son-in-law, Edward Chervenak.

She is survived by sons John (Jacqueline) and Thomas (Kimberley), daughters Maria Chervenak and Michaeleen Graham (Robert) and ten wonderfully loving grandchildren, Megan, John,Edward, Thomas, Katherine, Robert, Maggie, Daniel, Tessa and Enrique as well as sixteen adoring great-grandchildren, Courtney, Hazel, Vivian, Gibson, Amelie, Jeremiah, Isla, Jackson, Kai, Halle, Dimitri, Scarlett, Rose, Ruby, Luke and Grace.

Tessie lived most of her life in Hackettstown, NJ, attended Hackettstown High School, and proudly served as the Captain of the 1946 Cheerleading Squad. “Grandma’s Cheer” can be found on You-Tube as a testament to her lively spirit. She was so proud to be among the first nurses to work at Hackettstown Community Hospital, along with her beloved “gal pals,” Irene and Betty, when it opened its doors in 1973. She was a dedicated nurse until she retired in 1988. Tessie spent every summer at the Jersey Shore, her “happy place.”

Her lifelong bond with her sisters and brothers was unique and cherished. She enjoyed every minute she spent with Fran, Susie, Sonny, (and deceased Jeannie, Helen, Vicky, Klee, and Mickey). Tessie also leaves many, many nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly.

Tessie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family will live on through the generations she leaves behind.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Fort Lauderdale, FL, followed by interment at Pequest Cemetery in Great Meadows, NJ.

God speed Tessie, my mother and sister worked with Tessie many years as nurses at Hackettstown community Hospital. Both mom and my sister thought the world of Tessie, her compassion and common sense she used in equal measure when caring for her patients.
