Eloise Mial, formerly Eloise Mae (Poe) Marlatt of Port Murray, NJ, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on June 13, 2022  at Abington Manor.  She resided many years prior at Heath Retirement Village in Hackettstown, NJ.

Born on December 14, 1925 in Winston-Salem, NC, she was the daughter of George Franklin Poe, DC and Eloise (Hawkins) Poe, DC, who resided in Califon, NJ.  Eloise is predeceased by her parents, younger sister Dorothy (Poe) Cox, husband Russell M. Marlatt and later husband John Mial, OD of Hackettstown, NJ.

Eloise married Russell M. Marlatt in 1945, prior to his deployment to the Pacific, where he was a WWII United States Army Air Corps Staff Sergeant. Following the war they started their lives together on the family farm, Marlatt’s Fruit Farm in Port Murray, NJ.  They were married for 38 years until the death of her husband Russell (Murph), in 1982.  She is survived by their three daughters, Beverly (Marlatt) Ellsworth of Belvidere, NJ, Gracia Mae Marlatt of Mt. Vernon, IL and Loraine Marlatt of Belvidere, NJ, seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Ellsworth) Allen of Smithfield, VA, Jacob Ellsworth of Bigfork, MT, Sabrina (deMiranda) Luitjohan of Highland, IL, Matthew deMiranda of St. Peters, MO, Kristin Ashman of White Plains, NY, Thomas Ashman of Gardena, CA, and Ryan Ashman of Gillette, WY, twelve great-grandchildren, a brother-in law Norbert W. Cox of Center Valley, PA, a niece and two nephews.

Eloise graduated from High Bridge High School in New Jersey, and went on to graduate from Maryland College for Women.  She was a homemaker, and secretary and bookkeeper of the family business for many years.  In the 1970s she was employed as the secretary to the president of Centenary College for Women in Hackettstown, NJ.

Eloise volunteered her time through the years to the Port Murray Methodist Church where she sang, and was often soloist in the choir.  She also headed the Sunday School program and was involved in various church functions.  Her musical talent led her to singing with the Fred Waring Choral Group, and playing piano and organ in her church.  She was a member of the Junior Women’s Club in Washington, NJ, president of the Parent Teacher Association at Mansfield Township Elementary School and a Girl Scout leader for many years.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Cochran Funeral Home in Hackettstown, NJ on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00.
