Angel L. Mateo, loving husband, father, and grandfather, age 81, died with his family by his side at his home in Budd Lake, NJ, on Saturday, July 31, 2021. Born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, on March 31, 1940, he lived most of his adult life in New York City after proudly serving in the United States Army from 07/12/1958 to 07/06/1961. He is the son of the late Joaquin Mateo and the late Eduvigis (Rodriquez) Ocasio. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Myrna (Pizarro) Mateo, his children Linda and her husband Karl Lens, and Angel and his wife, Josephine. He will be reuniting with his oldest daughter, Myrna (Mimi) Susan Mateo. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Kurt Mateo Lens, Kevin Roy Lens, Casey Mae Lens, Justin Angel Mateo, and Brandon Matthew Mateo. Angel is preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters Gloria Mateo and Zoraida Mateo, and survived by his brother Joaquin Mateo and two sisters Juanita and Nilsa Mateo. Angel worked for General Motors in Tarrytown, NY, for 36 years. He was a fan of baseball and the New York Yankees. He loved to read and enjoyed being an active grandfather. A proud and respectful man, he will be missed greatly.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. 07840. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 6, 2021, at 10:30 am at St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church, 17 Mt. Olive Road, Budd Lake, N.J. 07828.

Burial will be in Northern NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 75 North Church Road, Sparta, N.J. 07871. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.cochranfuneral.com/

The Lens Family will be hosting an Open House from 2:00 to 4:00 in celebration of Angel’s life
