Dolores McCauley died at the Oaks at Denville on July 1. 2025. She was 92.
She was born on February 9, 1933 in Hackensack, NJ to Michael and Nellie Swed. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Rutherford, NJ. She was employed in the engineering department at George M. Brewster & Son Construction, for work on the George Washington Bridge, when she met her future husband, Joseph McCauley, a salesman. They married on June 30, 1962 at St. Mary’s Church in Rutherford, NJ. She lived in Hackettstown and Mansfield Township, NJ for the past 63 years. She was a parishioner at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Hackettstown, NJ for many years.
She was a devoted mother who chaperoned class trips, volunteered as a school room mother, and was involved with Brownies and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed entertaining, decorating and buying gifts for family and friends for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. She liked spending time on Long Beach Island during the summer, taking care of homeless cats, babysitting for her neighbors’ children and shopping for others.
She is survived by her daughter, Michele, son-in-law, Mark Debbs, and grand pups, Sandy and Sunny Cinco, of Denville, NJ, her brother, Ed Swed, of Surf City, NJ, niece Susan and her husband, Robert Ferrel, of Lincoln Park, NJ and nephew, Kenneth Klapper, of Ctr. Sandwich, NH.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph McCauley, and her sister, Lois Klapper.
