On Saturday, January 28, 2023, Elizabeth McNulty, passed away at the age of 93 years. Elizabeth, known as “ Betsy ” , was born in Mendham , NJ on April 16th , 1929 . She was delivered by her father, Dr. William S. Voorhies. Her mother, Frieda (Roberts) Voorhies was a nurse. Her big brother, another William, had been born two years earlier.
From an early age Betsy enjoyed Church and developed a strong Christian Faith. She learned to play the organ at church and sang, sometimes as a soloist. She joined Girl Scouts when she was old enough and this became a lifelong hobby. Betsy loves sports of all kinds. She enjoyed nature, gardening and travel.
Betsy attended Bouve – Boston School of Physical Education at Tuft s University, majoring in Phys ed. She graduated in 1950 from Tuft’s University with a degree in education and went on to work at the Calhoun School in NYC. Around this ti me she also became a Girl Scout leader , receiving numerous awards for outstanding service and was elected to VP of the Taconic Girl Scout Council. Betsy married Frank Fagan in 1951.They had several happy years together and e joyed tent camping and hiking the Appalachian Trail. Sadly, Frank passed in 1977 but eight years later, Betsy was blessed with another wonderful husband, William Mc Nulty. They moved to Copake, NY on Robinson Pond and became very involved in the United Methodist Church of Copake, holding almost every church position. Betsy became a lay minister and Organist. They loved to travel and drove their RV to every state in the contiguous United States, traveling to Alaska four times, Mexico and Canada. They also made several trips abroad. Betsy loved gardening, feeding the birds, music, watching sports, and her Shelties Nikki, Muggins I and Muggins II.
In their later years they moved to East Greenbush, NY and spent several enjoyable years at Hawthorne Ridge, a senior community. In May of 2021 they moved to Heath Village in Hackettstown, NJ. At Heath Village, Betsy enjoyed the many activities, food and services
Betsy is predeceased by her husband William, brother, William and sister in law Maryanne. She is survived by her step children , William McNulty, Roger McNulty and Mikki Antley, step grandchildren , June , Jack, Garrett, Caitlin , JJ and Angel, h er nieces , Veronia and Janet and nep hew William , grandnephew s Sean, Heron and John and grandnieces Jessica, Samantha and Maya .
